A week of NYC bike lane obstructions (day 5)

It all comes down to the last photo of the week. Of course, I was caught with my pants down (aka no "real" camera) when I spotted this gem. So, I grabbed the trusty iPhone and shot away. This was captured on the east side of Union Square. I'm not sure why they had parked the huge police truck on the sidewalk. I believe they do video surveillance out of those things...not really sure though.

You can't tell from this photo, but there are 2 important things to point out. First, there is no driver in the car parked in the bike lane. It was simply parked there, and for how long I have no idea. Second, there were 2 or 3 other police cars just behind me that had pulled up onto the extra large sidewalk. Why this one was parked in the bike lane is unclear.

This photo was actually a twofer. Note the rider to the right of the police car. Not only has he been pushed out of the bike lane and into traffic, but he is going against traffic and would commonly be called a "salmon" in NYC.

So, you have a cop car in the bike lane and someone salmoning...what a way to end this little project.
